it's a walk off, it's a walk off... kate bosworth vs...ME in topshop...

By Roberta Correia · May 25, 2010

Imagine my shock and awe when I came across this pic of the lovely Kate Bosworth walking around NYC last week. Not only have I been way too obsessed with the oversized "boyfriend" button down trend lately and was happy to see I'm not the only one, but Kate's wearing the EXACT same shirt I had worn a week earlier in an attempt to perfect this trend for a dinner out with my most favorite ex co-workers. Somehow I managed to wear the same item as one of the undeniably best dressed celebs out there even before she wore it!

Let's just start off by acknowledging the cool factor of our (mine and Kate's obv) mutual Topshop shirt.

Needless to say I didn't come anywhere near close to Kate's chicness with this look. First off her blonde hair did more for the taupe color than my very dark curly hair. Second of all she paired it with skinny jeans which kept it lighter, while I paired it with black skinny pants and a fair isle sweater (it was one of those unexpectedly cold days we've had in NYC lately).

First Camilla Belle, now this. My celebrity dressing 6th sense is really on a roll.

Get mine and Kate's look after the jump. more, more, more...

daily style: kate bosworth

By Roberta Correia · May 5, 2010

Nothing like a smidgen of celebrity street style to get our Spring/Summer juices flowing. Earlier today, Kate Bosworth, poster girl of the oh so casually cool movement, joined the legions of lovely ladies (god I love alliteration) sporting J Brand's 'Houlihan' skinny cargos on the NYC streets. Kate kept her trademark California girl cool in a tie dye Proenza Schouler tank, aviators and that "I just stepped out of the shower so my hair is still wet but I look better than you do after 2 hours at the salon" bun. Ok maybe all of that wasn't going through her head, but she still managed to look effortlessly chic as always.

These are apparently THE pants to covet for the summer, and the sight of Ms. Bosworth in them only makes them that more fantastic. If you're into that whole "I wear the genuine article no matter the cost" thing, rush over to singer22.com for your pair of the season's hottest pants.

Need further proof that the J Brand Houlihan skinny cargos are the IT pants of summer 2010? Read on...

daily style: more tribeca film festival...

By Roberta Correia · April 28, 2010

So apparently my announcement that the Tribeca Film Festival was without fashion was a bit premature. Last night's The Killer Inside Me premiere had me eating my words and saying apologies.

Dear Jessica Alba,

My apologies for ever doubting how positively stunning you are. See, all it took was long flowing locks (those are the most real looking extensions I ever did see), naturally glowing makeup and a beyond lovely Chloe hippie girl dress to make me a believer again. This is your best hair to date. You've peaked my interest yet again.

Now on to Kate Hudson. See my advice to Jess Alba and follow it. What's with the Mad Men hair? Too frumpy makeup and logoed poncho? Remember when you were lauded for your natural beauty and bohemian style. Let's try to get back to that shall we? Think Penny Lane...

Fantastic or dubious, either way after a week of blah fashions up and down the red carpet, we finally have something to work with.

it's a walk off, it's a walk off...camilla belle vs. ME!

By Roberta Correia · April 18, 2010

Imagine my happiness and awe when upon searching the internet for the latest in celebrity Coachella fashions, I found this picture of Camilla Belle. The happiness comes in the form of "um, she totally knocked off my look" and the awe goes something like this "what? I JUST bought that same dress a week ago!".

I happened to wear this exact floral Zara dress yesterday to a friend's birthday. And yes, I also wore it last weekend to another friend's going away party. It currently falls under the "I love my new dress I want to wear it all the time" category. And rightfully so, look how cute it looks on Camilla. It's a great dress to transition from winter to spring - it's long enough, the floral print is springy but not too flashy or bright and it's just got that 70s hippie feel that makes you want to layer and wear a big floppy hat.

While my fellow Brazilian Camilla paired the dress with chunky boots and a little crochet sweater, mine was with dark grey tights, wooden wedges and a very thin long cardigan. Have to say I like hers way better. Who knew Camilla and I shared a similar taste in moderately priced floral dresses?

Daily Style: Rachel Bilson...

By Roberta Correia · April 11, 2010

If there are two things that would make the perfect combination it's Rachel Bilson and Preen.

RBils chose a dress from Preen's fall collection for the NYC premiere of her new movie Waiting for Forever, part of the Gen Art Film Festival (which looks to have been sponsored by Don Julio Tequila so we hope she took advantage of that). As always Rachel is adorableness personified, even if she did sexy it up a bit this time with the bustier dress. Isn't it just oh so 90s? I'd expect like Christy Turlington in something like this circa 1993. And yes that's a GIANT compliment.

She paired the dress with the ubiquitous Brian Atwood Maniac pumps (we don't blame the Hollywoodettes for loving them, they are pretty freaking fantastic) and a dress matching white clutch.

Additional props to Rachel for letting her natural hair shine through, gives the rest of us some inspiration to drop the straightening iron and let our natural curls go crazy.

Daily Style: Chloe Sevigny...

By Roberta Correia · April 7, 2010

I go back and forth with Chloe Sevigny. There are days when I think she's beyond fantastic, and days when I find her fashion choices way too out there for me. Her Proenza Schouler look at Derek Blasberg's "Classy" book party was somewhere in between. While I love the cuts, lengths and fit etc, the prints are not my cup of tea. I get it, I totally do, it's just not my thing. I've come to the sad realization that i'm just so boring these days, and I can't seem to step away from neutrals. Oops.

In any case I do think Chloe looks great, and yes I do have the ability to appreciate a certain style even if it's not mine. I'm still loving her cropped hair and well socks and open toed heels are always a hit in my book.

desperately seeking: transition dressing...

By Roberta Correia · April 5, 2010

If you're anything like me, the idea of a week of Spring filled weather after a very cold and miserable winter not only inspires thoughts of city strolling, park hopping and outdoor drinking, but also brings with it a slight wardrobe anxiety. You see, I've gotten so used to living in my tights, boots, thick sweaters and coats that putting together a transition weather appropriate outfit makes the ever prominent lines on my forehead even deeper. In short, what the f&*#$@#@ do we wear this week for the 75 degree nyc weather? Yes the weekend gave us a sneak peak into the glory that's to come but I'm all sorts of stressed trying to figure out how to make a smooth transition from my winter gear to my sunny summer selections.

Can I wear flip flops? Is it too soon for shorts? Will I need a jacket? What about flowery dresses? If I put on a sweater will I be way too warm? But what if I wear a skirt without tights and it gets cold at night? UGHHHHHHH

After many moons of research, very careful people watching from an open windowed cafe (what up Cafe Condesa!) and revisiting many online shopping carts filled with spring goodies,  I've come to a few conclusions about this particular predicament.  What follows is basically going to be my transition into Spring uniform. Apparently my Spring picks are neutral, neutral, neutral and somehow they include the word "boyfriend" for the most part. Weird. Well at least we can get lots of mixing and matching out of these guys.

I'm also curious to know, for anthropological research purposes of course, what some of you out there wore this week to usher in the Spring Summer time? Have you mastered the art of transitional fashion yet?

the kids have chosen...

By Roberta Correia · March 31, 2010

yes I'm a bit late to the game on this one... but there was definitely some fashiony things happening at the Kids' Choice Awards over the weekend. Particularly like how casual this event always ends up being - guess everyone assumes they'll be slimed.
