There's no question that Blake Lively and Alexa Chung are polar opposites when it comes to style. Always going for the uber sexy route, Blake manages to somehow make everything tighter and shorter while making her hair longer and fuller.
Alexa on the other hand, is the picture of London cool. Rarely showing that extra bit of skin, often found in flats and with a new penchant for calf length skirts, we wouldn't exactly describe Alexa's style as sexy. Don't get me wrong - she's the bees knees as far as I'm concerned, my numero uno fashion inspiration, but I can't in good conscience call her a sex pot.
So with all that in mind it's a wonder that both girls were distinctly fabulous in the exact same Chanel dress. Blake wore hers first, and managed to keep it pretty demure. Seems Serena's been taking some fashion advice from the big guns these days (ie Anna), and her red carpet looks have gone significantly more class, less sex. This dress the perfect example of said fashion metamorphosis. Of course the sky high Loubotins help in the vamp department.
Meanwhile, our girl Chung was her usual adorable little self in the mixed florals and slightly sexy see through panel dress. Alexa chose the dress for her front row stint at the Chanel SS 2011 show in Paris this week. She accessorized with black flat loafers and her hair in a trademark messy updo. How many times can I refer to her as adorable?
While Blake oozed confidence and sex appeal, Alexa gave us more of a girl next door thing. Who has your vote?
I'm guessing I wasn't the only one glued to cbs.com (and Andre Leon Talley's incessant babbling) last night circa 7pm was I? Fashion's Night Out is still a couple of days away but last night's Fashion's Night Out fashion show really got us in the NYFW/FNO mood. The absurdly over the top / dramatic/ mega spectacle was tauted the "biggest fashion show of all time" and it didn't disappoint. Gisele, Alessandra, Adriana, Karolina, Natalia, Coco, Chanel, Dree, Naomi etc, etc...basically every working model out there got off that double decker bus to strut her stuff on the circular runway.
What followed was an opulent and fabulous collection of every awe inspiring look from the FW2010 runways. Hoping to inspire a lot of FNO shopping Vogue editors and stylists Tabitha Simmons and Edward Enninful put together a showcase of the season's top trends according to Vogue. The show worked in 9 themes, in between the Opening Act and Grand Finale were Fifties Flair, Tartan Twist, Pure At Heart, Weekend Wrap-Up, Rock Chic, Go Global and Jazz Age Cool.
PS - I've settled on nomadic chic for my fall look - appropriate I think.
S & B & well I guess Little J, continue showing off their high fashion know how by sitting ring side at the hottest couture shows in Paris. Les Gossip Girls and Jessica Alba touched down at the Chanel show yesterday, showing off very different, yet all very covetable, Chanel looks (obv).
Blake Lively continues her adorable French tour in a very bohemian Chanel resort dress. Isn't it fabulous? Don't you just want to wear that dress to your next Haute Couture fashion show? Or every day? And it's not too tight nor too short, it's just right! Has she finally found her inner Goldilocks?
On to Jess Alba, who also did her best to go have us all going "awwww" but didn't quite do it for me. The dress is great no question, but the choice of footwear is just not working for me. Clearly it's meant to contrast with the frock's peasant girl thing, but the peep toe weaved booties just make it look mismatched and weird. Am I wron?
Far from awwwww was apparent bad girl Leighton Meester. B was all sorts of rocker chic in some form of long sleeved black leather number which just has me thinking "ugh that looks hot" - no I don't mean sexy, I mean warm as in the fires of Mordor. Is it 100 degrees where you guys are? Because it's 100 degrees here and I just, blurgh can't even look at those long sleeves without feeling suffocated.
My vote is clearly with Blake Lively. I can't believe I'm saying this but she actually looks sweet and angelic!! What's going on with the world??
It's very tough to say who's doing their best "lady-who-lunches after taking in a couture fashion show" impression at the Dior F/W 2010 Couture show yesterday. Former Vogue cover girl Blake Lively, seated next to La Wintour herself, deviated from her usual va-va-voom bombshell look for something a little bit more ladylike. Though the hair still had that "I just banged Nate in the kitchen" Serena oomph.
Meanwhile, doting mom Jessica Alba went summer time sweet in an airy strapless floral. Sort of a modern Betty Draper no?
Who gets your most fab at Dior vote?
Twihards come out to stare at Rob Pattinson, while we oooh and aahhh over the ladies of Twilight's fashion choices. Plus a few other big fashion moments and best dressed contenders...
Just so I can sleep at night knowing I brought at least some of the best from the last week. Let's take a quick look before starting fresh this week.
sorry kids. it's been the craziest week ever - traveling, traveling and yet more traveling. excuses aside, it's time to catch up on some of this week's best dressed ladies. Lots of Young Hollywood glam this week - kind of loving the return to sweet young starlet versus the no underwear wearing/ripped pants thing...
Tonight's Emmy's brought lots of glitz and glamour to the red carpet. What I love about the TV crowd is that they usually go old school with their glam and there are fewer dont's than at most shows. One-shouldered gowns, full skirts and 1920's inspirations (including Art-Deco for the lovely Mrs. Draper) were the big winners of the night...Check out a few...
