Day 2 and a little bit more color mixed in with those now ubiquitous neutrals. The LWD is proving to be the reigning force of the season and here's hoping things stay that way. Also nice to see a little bit of that oh so talked about regatta blue, and let's just discuss that everything at Vena Cava is to die for. The most perfect slinky silky thin 70s dressing. Turbans and all. Memphis movement color blocking, some lovely rust colors, silk shorts and wait for it... wait for it... a baja. Ok, maybe they didn't mean for it to be a baja, or maybe they are just that genius - but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Enjoy my favorite things from Day 2 of NYFW. What trends are you seeing so far? Summer leather? Shorts suits?
Summer's definitely starting to rear its lovely little head. Ok so our current weather conditions don't 100% agree with that statement, what with the rainy foggy London skies happening here in NYC. But I do have faint memories of sweltering heat and pool side afternoons that will hopefully be making their way back to us soon. And what goes better with sweltering heat than a nice burst of lemon limey freshness. Seems that bright yellow has made its way onto Hollywood red carpets as the it color of the season. It also goes with the hopefully constant return to the early 90s.
We first caught wind of this color trend when Whitney Port, who yes I unfortunately must refer to as a fashionista, chose a draped Rachel Roy dress in a bright shade of super sunny yellow for the NYLON Young Hollywood party.
Then it was SJP's turn in a flowing asymmetrical Valentino number at the SATC 2 premiere. Hers definitely had a more lime than lemon undertone to it, and combined with her very blonde wavy hair it made for summer personified.
Scarlett followed suit with a more citified version of the trend. The very modern oh so cool sophisticated mini was the work of non other than our favorite Brits, Preen. Ruching, one shoulder, body con mini...the makings of an unbelievably perfect dress. And their version of lemon lime is so on point and wearable it almost makes me want to switch every item in my closet and replace it with just this dress.
How do you guys feel about the return to citrus?
* Get it? Like Super Friends! What? Too old of a reference? Quick to the Hall of Justice!
I go back and forth with Chloe Sevigny. There are days when I think she's beyond fantastic, and days when I find her fashion choices way too out there for me. Her Proenza Schouler look at Derek Blasberg's "Classy" book party was somewhere in between. While I love the cuts, lengths and fit etc, the prints are not my cup of tea. I get it, I totally do, it's just not my thing. I've come to the sad realization that i'm just so boring these days, and I can't seem to step away from neutrals. Oops.
In any case I do think Chloe looks great, and yes I do have the ability to appreciate a certain style even if it's not mine. I'm still loving her cropped hair and well socks and open toed heels are always a hit in my book.
Rachel Bilson has a new obsession. Ok, so it's not as compulsive as the Sienna Miller/Prada bag debacle of summer 2009 just yet, but it seems to be the beginnings of a steady relationship. And we all know when Rachel wears something more than once it's love (exhibit A. the 3.1 Phillip Lim bow bag she was photographed with many a time). This time around Rachel's loving Mary Jane flats from Tila March. And why not? The "ballerine elastique" flats are the perfect transition piece from Winter to Spring. As RBils shows us, tights and jeans work perfectly with this modern mix of two staples in footwear (the flat and mary jane) but let's just take a moment to picture it paired with some floral shorts, a mini or even (GHASP) linen overalls (my new obsession for spring). Me thinks that Ms. Bilson has stumbled upon the ultimate in between season footwear.
A girl can never quite have enough stripes in her wardrobe. I've recently become completely obsessed with navy and white stripes and can't stop buying up every striped top, dress, skirt, pant, bag, socks etc etc I see. Of course it's Summer so this means the whole nautical thing is in full effect and finding that perfect striped tee is absurdly easy. I also love the American Apparel striped frock as a beach cover up, especially if you're boating...which I do maybe, never. But hey it's nice to have options and to be able to say "oh yeah, I'd love to go boating, I have the perfect outfit for the occassion!"
Check out where to find amazing nautical looks that will have you saying arghhhh in no time, after the jump...
It was a perfectly crisp and sunny fall weekend here in New York, which of course inspired me to drink Apple Cider and desperately crave a pair of riding boots... flat chocolate brown riding boots to be exact...
Here's what I came up with on my search. I think I'm going with the JCrew ones...
Ok, so technically that title doesn't make too much sense other than that Justin & Jessica have been all lovey dovey in Rome and that song reminds me of Jude Law in "The Talented Mr. Ripley"... So down to the fashion - I always have such a hard time looking put together, yet comfortable, stylish, appropriate etc when sightseeing on vacation. I've never been a big fan of Jessica Biel's style - she never seems to put too much effort into it other than red carpet looks... that being said she totally blew me away with this perfectly paired touring outfit. LOVE LOVE LOVE the leopard print scarf...hope they are eating lots of pasta!
Oh and Justin doesn't look too bad in his fedora and wayfarers.
After seeing the pictures of this vacation I've decided I actually like them together.
ps - i know this picture's a few days old but i couldn't help it!
Where better to get your dose of Vitamin C than with a mini silk dress in the bright attention seeking color! Cameron Diaz chose a very mini (I'd wanna show off those legs too!) very ruffled dress to receive her decade of hotness award at the Spike TV Awards, Jessica Szohr - one of our most style revereed Gossip Girls - went with a bright orange number for the Teen Choice Awards and paired it with a waist cinching belt (great choice), and our regal Gwyneth wore her citrus to a Tod's store opening.
