FNO: The Show

|
By Roberta Correia · September 8, 2010

I'm guessing I wasn't the only one glued to cbs.com (and Andre Leon Talley's incessant babbling) last night circa 7pm was I? Fashion's Night Out is still a couple of days away but last night's Fashion's Night Out fashion show really got us in the NYFW/FNO mood. The absurdly over the top / dramatic/ mega spectacle was tauted the "biggest fashion show of all time" and it didn't disappoint. Gisele, Alessandra, Adriana, Karolina, Natalia, Coco, Chanel, Dree, Naomi etc, etc...basically every working model out there got off that double decker bus to strut her stuff on the circular runway.

What followed was an opulent and fabulous collection of every awe inspiring look from the FW2010 runways. Hoping to inspire a lot of FNO shopping Vogue editors and stylists Tabitha Simmons and Edward Enninful put together a showcase of the season's top trends according to Vogue. The show worked in 9 themes, in between the Opening Act and Grand Finale were Fifties Flair, Tartan Twist, Pure At Heart, Weekend Wrap-Up, Rock Chic, Go Global and Jazz Age Cool.

PS - I've settled on nomadic chic for my fall look - appropriate I think.

a trip down coachella memory lane...

Ever wonder how Coachella became such a hyped up, fashioned music frenzy? Didn't it use to be just a chill music festival? In the same manner as Sundance, Coachella's now home to all sorts of red carpet worthy parties and sponsored gifting suites to accommodate the ever growing number of celebs attending the 3 day massive fiesta. Hey, not that we're complaining over here - Coachella, and other music festivals like it, have provided us with some of the new millennium's most covetable sartorial choices from the likes of Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, Nicole Richie etc etc... Let's face it, we all wish we had that festival chic look down. Apparently it consists of some super short denim shorts, either a boho top or a vintage rock tshirt and some form of headwear. Shall we take a stroll down memory lane before we start getting inundated with 2010 Coachella fashions?

Oh and I threw Kate Moss at Glastonbury in there just for good measure. Enjoy and dream Coachella dreams...

Real Models vs. Faux Models...

Ok, so as we sit here counting the last days of what turned out to be a very warm summer, one of the few things we get to look forward to in the fall is new TV. And being fashion conscious of course Ashton Kutcher produced "The Beautiful Life" is on the top of our list. For those of you who like me miss the very extinct Models Inc, oh come on you remember the fantastically bad 90s Melrose spin off, wait come to think of it, Melrose Place is getting a face lift, of course The Beautiful Life is the Models Inc of the new millenium.

Sorry got derailed...The Beautiful Life, which has gained some notoriety for star Mischa Barton's bouts with nervous breakdowns, has been doing the Gossip Girl thing, you know filming all over NYC and getting clicked by the paparazzi for their every move. The show follows the lives of three models; one a veteran of the industry (played by Marissa Cooper herself); one a show off tight dress wearing attention seeker (played by Ashley Madekwe); and the newby (played by Sarah Paxton)...

Now as we saw these three girls were doing their best model impressions all this week on the streets of New York and at same time in the same city, real supermodels, aka Victoria's Secret girls, were out and about promoting their upcoming show on NYC's myriad of morning shows. Which got us thinking... do you buy the fake models of The Beautiful Life, or are they no match for the likes of Marissa Miller and Alessandra Ambrosio? Well at least the Victoria's Secret girls looked like they showered...

What do you think? The Beautiful Life models or real models?...

*disclaimer - obviously Elle MacPherson is the one exception...
