nyfw: new it girl on the block?

By Roberta Correia · February 15, 2010

It's no secret I'm a huge Mad Men fan. And while most oooh and aaaahh over Betty's douche baggery, or Joan's general fantasticness, I tend to identify with a minor yet integral character - Trudy Campbell. Sure she's a touch bratty but no other wife on this show has stood by her man quite like Trudy. Yeah Pete's a winey little bastard but Trudy sees beyond that and is there for him when he needs her to man up and play secretary, or bring food to the masses at Sterling Cooper Draper and Pryce. So imagine my surprise to see the face of the newest girl about town this Fashion Week...Mrs. Pete Campbell herself has managed to score front rows at some of the most celeb studded events (granted it's been a celebrity light kind of nyfw but whatever). We hope this is the beginning of a new found love for Alison Brie, aka Trudy who also stars on NBC's Community. It looks like she's got herself a publicist so now all she needs is a stylist and a fashionista is born! Welcome to the big leagues Trudy, we can't wait to see you blossom from housewife into It girl.

nyfw: a few of my favorite things, day 2...

By Roberta Correia · February 13, 2010

Day 2 was decidedly more colorful than day 1. Florals, purples and I'm starting to think that mustard may in fact be emerging as the color of the season.

nyfw: a few of my favorite things, day 1...

By Roberta Correia · February 11, 2010

A somber first day for New York Fashion Week this season.

While the fashion community mourned the loss of one of their own with touching tributes all around (our thoughts go out to Alexander McQueens friends and family, his genius goes without saying) the runways echoed the cold and melancholy feelings of the industry.

A few bright lights in an otherwise dark, futuristic and rather serious FW2010. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

nyfw: let the madness begin...

By Roberta Correia · February 11, 2010

Not even the threat of a blizzard could keep the gliteratti from heading to many a party last night. after all, the headliners were the likes of Chanel, Hermes, Interview Magazine, Full Frontal Fashion etc etc... Let the NYFW madness begin...

Desperately Seeking: Fashion Week Fundamentals...

By Roberta Correia · February 5, 2010

Fashion Week is fast approaching and when staring at my closet in preparation, I'm faced with that eternal quandary: "I don't have a thing to wear." And with the winter and lack of funds and all, it's been a long while since I've been desperately seeking anything. So I figured it's about time I started building on what I already have and also bring in some early spring pieces to brighten things up a bit. My approach is to always have a few pieces to mix and match and basically plan out my outfits ahead of time as not to have major pre-show anxiety and inability to leave the house because I can't wear a thing besides yoga pants.

What I'm thinking is a mix of knits and lace to evoke the romanticism of mid February (there are shows on Valentine's Day and all), a few soft tops to mix with tight black pants and skinny jeans, a pair of black all purpose ankle booties (Forever 21 happens to make my most favorite ones, and I had looked EVERYWHERE), high wasted paper bag trousers to mix with tanks and cardigans and some of the afore mentioned soft tops, delicious fingerless cashmere gloves to get you from Bryant Park to Milk Studios warmly enough and still being able to twitter constant updates, and yet another all purpose black accessory a fold over black bag. And let's add to that a long sleeved red dress for those party nights. It's a mix of Alexa Chung with 90s minimalism that's sure to blend in with the rest of the pieces in my ever expanding, ever useless wardrobe.

After all, Fashion Week is as much about looking fabulous and getting a chance to play around with your look as it is about taking in the newest trends catwalk side.

NYFW: Preen Finale...

By Roberta Correia · September 17, 2009

Preen was definitely one of my favorite shows of the season. Justin and Thea always turn out the sexiest, coolest clothes, and you can just tell this will be on a bevy of the best dressed women ASAP. My favorite - the hot pinks and the mix of yellow and grey...

1992 is that you??

By Roberta Correia · September 14, 2009
Was that Kelly Kapowski we spotted front and center at three shows in three days? And we thought Lisa Turtle was the fashionista of the group.

Luca Luca, Rebecca Taylor and Thuy were all lucky enough to have the one and only Mrs. Zack Morris gracing them with her presence. Is this the sign of amazing things to come? Could this be the greatest fashion week ever, or just a happy coincidence considering Kelly Val Tiffani Amber Thiessen has a show premiering this fall? Yeah I don't know what the show is called but apparently she has one.
