Nothing like a smidgen of celebrity street style to get our Spring/Summer juices flowing. Earlier today, Kate Bosworth, poster girl of the oh so casually cool movement, joined the legions of lovely ladies (god I love alliteration) sporting J Brand's 'Houlihan' skinny cargos on the NYC streets. Kate kept her trademark California girl cool in a tie dye Proenza Schouler tank, aviators and that "I just stepped out of the shower so my hair is still wet but I look better than you do after 2 hours at the salon" bun. Ok maybe all of that wasn't going through her head, but she still managed to look effortlessly chic as always.
These are apparently THE pants to covet for the summer, and the sight of Ms. Bosworth in them only makes them that more fantastic. If you're into that whole "I wear the genuine article no matter the cost" thing, rush over to singer22.com for your pair of the season's hottest pants.
Need further proof that the J Brand Houlihan skinny cargos are the IT pants of summer 2010? Read on...
Am I the only one who completely spaced that Mother's Day is coming up next week? I've just been reminded of the date and am totally freaking on what to buy the many moms in my life (mom, sisters, friends etc). There are so many different ways to go on the mother's day gift front, so I figured what better way to attack it than to oh so nicely pigeon hole people into different categories. So I've narrowed it down to the different types of moms I've personally been trying to find gifts for. I'm hoping this helps the rest of you, well let's say I hope there are others out there like me who are still on the Mother's Day gift hunt.
So apparently my announcement that the Tribeca Film Festival was without fashion was a bit premature. Last night's The Killer Inside Me premiere had me eating my words and saying apologies.
Dear Jessica Alba,
My apologies for ever doubting how positively stunning you are. See, all it took was long flowing locks (those are the most real looking extensions I ever did see), naturally glowing makeup and a beyond lovely Chloe hippie girl dress to make me a believer again. This is your best hair to date. You've peaked my interest yet again.
Now on to Kate Hudson. See my advice to Jess Alba and follow it. What's with the Mad Men hair? Too frumpy makeup and logoed poncho? Remember when you were lauded for your natural beauty and bohemian style. Let's try to get back to that shall we? Think Penny Lane...
Fantastic or dubious, either way after a week of blah fashions up and down the red carpet, we finally have something to work with.
The Tribeca Film Festival fashions have proven pretty lackluster so far this year. So lackluster in fact that Kiki Dunst managed to grab the spotlight at the usually rather fashion forward week. Looking lovely in a floral Nina Ricci frock, Dunst ushered in Spring (no we promise, Spring's on its way) with an oh so fun / drop waisted 20's feeling. Like Gwyneth before her, she paired her light colored dress with a severe black shoe - in this case a pointy toed pump.
We would have preferred something along the lines of Chloe Sevigny's buckled wedges for Opening Ceremony in a neutral beige. Wouldn't that have just made this look over the top fantastic? Either way Kiks hasn't looked this good since Bring It On. Oh, it's already been broughten...
It's tough to say who was hotter at last night's Iron Man 2 premiere in LA. First contender, the lovely Ms. Goop herself. Gwyneth wore an Armani short suit with a slight golden sheen to it. Only Mrs. Chris Martin, and her Tracy Anderson toned legs, could make this look so incredibly sophisticated. Not the biggest fan of the black booties, wish she kept the whole thing a little lighter.
Second up, the man that can make any movie delightful - Robert Downey Jr. Now I'm not one of those who jumped on the RDJ bandwagon post comeback, I've always hoped that he would take his triumphant place in Hollywood history. I was randomly watching Chances Are last night and he's just so charming it's crazy. Case in point he almost manages to upstage Gwyneth in his head to toe Lanvin look. My favorite parts: the matching tie/sneakers combo and the beyond fabulous flower pin.
See more from the Iron Man 2 premiere after the jump!
It's no secret we are strong supporters of Kate Bosworth's sartorial choices. The blonde beauty always seems casually cool and put together, yet super on trend without over doing it. Of course our eyes were on her as the Coachella style pics started rolling in.
Kate solidified her place in the music festival hall of fame at last year's Coachella in her yellow See by Chloe jellies. For 2010, with new boyfriend in tow, Kate did it again. Ms. Bosworth managed to trump the other hippie chic festival goers in all three of her outfits of choice for the 3 day concert. First was the teal tie dyed Suno dress with Joie's Picasso sandals, the perfect start to a 3 day fashion extravaganza. Next she focused on one of Summer's biggest trends in a very tight bodycon crochet dress (from Topshop of all places!). Is it me or did crochet seem like the trend of choice for Coachella attendees this season? For day three Bos went a bit more casual in a lace tee and cuffed J.Brand shorts, adding a little edge to her look with really low Isabel Marant booties.
Love Kate's Coachella looks as much as we do? Find out where to get them after the jump...
Imagine my happiness and awe when upon searching the internet for the latest in celebrity Coachella fashions, I found this picture of Camilla Belle. The happiness comes in the form of "um, she totally knocked off my look" and the awe goes something like this "what? I JUST bought that same dress a week ago!".
I happened to wear this exact floral Zara dress yesterday to a friend's birthday. And yes, I also wore it last weekend to another friend's going away party. It currently falls under the "I love my new dress I want to wear it all the time" category. And rightfully so, look how cute it looks on Camilla. It's a great dress to transition from winter to spring - it's long enough, the floral print is springy but not too flashy or bright and it's just got that 70s hippie feel that makes you want to layer and wear a big floppy hat.
While my fellow Brazilian Camilla paired the dress with chunky boots and a little crochet sweater, mine was with dark grey tights, wooden wedges and a very thin long cardigan. Have to say I like hers way better. Who knew Camilla and I shared a similar taste in moderately priced floral dresses?
Another day another something masterful coming our way from J.Crew. Earlier this week the master of all things cool and fantastic, J.Crew's creative director Ms. Jenna Lyons, got together with Vogue Fashion Features Director Sally Singer to launch the Fenton/ Fallon for J.Crew collection at the brand's Soho store.
Needless to say FF's genius designer Dana Lorenz has created a collection that's right up there with J.Crew's super cool rocker-chic mixed with prepster-classics aesthetic. Chunky multi strand necklaces layered with spikes and fringe, likely put together with some cuffed boyfriend jeans and a fur vest, or even a boyfriend button down with some shorts. J.Crew's become masterful at incorporating the statement necklace with classic wardrobe staples and this latest addition is nothing short of uber cool.
My personal favorite is the layered bracelet. I just dream of wearing it with a men's watch, oversized silkish button down, ripped up boyfriend shorts and girly socks with high healed sandals. Sigh.
Fenton/Fallon for J.Crew is already available at jcrew.com and by the looks of its front and center publicity on the site, it might not be there for long. Hurry.
Ever wonder how Coachella became such a hyped up, fashioned music frenzy? Didn't it use to be just a chill music festival? In the same manner as Sundance, Coachella's now home to all sorts of red carpet worthy parties and sponsored gifting suites to accommodate the ever growing number of celebs attending the 3 day massive fiesta. Hey, not that we're complaining over here - Coachella, and other music festivals like it, have provided us with some of the new millennium's most covetable sartorial choices from the likes of Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, Nicole Richie etc etc... Let's face it, we all wish we had that festival chic look down. Apparently it consists of some super short denim shorts, either a boho top or a vintage rock tshirt and some form of headwear. Shall we take a stroll down memory lane before we start getting inundated with 2010 Coachella fashions?
Oh and I threw Kate Moss at Glastonbury in there just for good measure. Enjoy and dream Coachella dreams...
