Holy red carpet batman!! Is it me or has the red carpet been extremely, um, red, lately? Seems some of our favorite fashionistas are trading the LBD for the LRD. Dare I say it? Red is the new black?...
When Angie and Jess Biel both wore long sweeping gowns (some of us more see through than others cough, Biel, cough) a few weeks back I chucked it up to a rather glamorous and fun coincidence. Angie gave us a whole Sophia Loren thing (and let's face it something very Joan Holloway-esque) by choosing a bright color for once in a halter Atelier Versace. Meanwhile Jessica Biel cause quite the stir when her Giambattista Valli gown not only matched the red carpet but also proved to be quite revealing. All planned I'm sure.
Then the lovely Ms.'s Bosworth and Bilson, a celeb fashion lover's dynamic duo to say the least, both donned red to grace the Vanessa Bruno dinner in LA with their presence (dressed in Vanessa Bruno natch). RBils went for just a dash of red with her ideally lengthed, ideally matched red skirt/striped shirt/cropped blazer combo, while the lovely Kate Bosworth opted for head to toe red, quite literally, even her lipstick had a slight scarlet undertone. Kate and Rach, especially Rach, gave the color of passion a very wearable spin that evening, sending a slew of us out searching for a little red skirt. Oh, was it just me? Ok.
Fast forward a couple of weeks and there's Sienna Miller in yet another simply, oh so casually put together, heavenly minimal little red dress. She sported said perfect "please someone buy me this is exact dress" out to dinner with Jude and paired it with her favorite G.I. Joe promoting footwear - black Isabel Marant booties. Now if Rachel made a red skirt the most covetable item of the month, Sienna managed to make a red dress the most covetable item of the season. These ladies showed us that if red's the latest color we should be going nuts for, it can be done very modestly and in a very casual-chic way. Is there anything better?
Now if sex pot is your thing when it comes to wearing red, not to worry. Katy Perry was glad to strut her stuff in a figure hugging Herve Leger (who else does figure hugging so good?) number to see David Letterman.
So what's your take on the new It color? Glam, girl-next-door or sex pot?
*if the batman references aren't enough to have you guessing, i again refer to the super friends.
